The European Commission declared 2018 the "European year of cultural heritage ". In order to support this valuable declaration, the six schools of our project entitled „Ancient heritage meets modern researchers" (acronym: AMOR) intend to work on different heritage phenomena of our countries/regions and to focus on their today’s impact and relevance for responsible and sustainable living. The aim is to motivate our students to appreciate and protect their heritage and to value its interest for our nowaday's life by tackling questions such as “Where and how does it still serve?” and “How can it help us making life better thus more sustainable today?”. During the 22 months of our project we will study tangible and intangible heritage elements in different fields like architecture, city building conceptions, food/diet, cultural traditions, music and dance etc., world heritage elements as well as non awarded phenomena. Natural heritage will also be taken into consideration. Another field of cooperation will be the scientific research on different UNESCO related topics, such as its history, its members and its activities but also the dangers it is exposed to in our current times. This field will involve expert interventions. All information/outcomes will be available to the public. As final product we will have a documentary movie showing the elements we worked on and their impact on today commented and produced by the participants. The documentary published in the net will be linked to further information and completed by a FAQ section, where frequently asked questions all around the topic of heritage and its today’s benefits are answered to. Self-created QR codes linked to our products and a quiz will allow students and other persons interested in the topics to get information and to test their newly acquired knowledge. Posters and flyers will complete our products on the physical side. The skills trained and the competences developed through this project will be scientific, digital, linguistic and intercultural. The topics will be prepared in cross-curricular studies involving school subjects like history, arts, ethics, politics and natural sciences. IT skills will be promoted through relevant workshops in the different countries, linguistic and intercultural competences will be developped through formal teamwork and informal face-to-face encounter. For promoting the idea of active and sustainable involvment each school will adopt a local monument of its suroundings and be in charge of its maintenance and promotion to the public. Students involved will be 15 - 18 years old. They will be hosted in guest families during the meetings. The project language will be English. Besides the impact of improved language, intercultural and IT competences with our students we expect the long term benefits to be a wider awareness of the importance of our heritage, empathy and involvment towards it and a fundamental knowledge about all its concerns, within the students community, their families, the school itself and the local surrounding.
The work of the six schools of our project entitled „Ancient heritage meets modern researchers" (acronym: AMOR) focussed on different heritage phenomena of our countries/regions and on their today’s impact and relevance for responsible and sustainable living. Each country was in charge of chosing two of its main heritage items and of presenting them to the whole group with the aim to motivate our students to appreciate and protect their heritage and to value its interest for our nowaday's life. Some of the intended results differ or miss because of the corona situation. During the four meetings we could held and to which always all countries were represented by a delegation, the contents of the 2 heritage items were presented to the participants through different methods (presentations, discovery games, round tables, expert interventions etc). Once familiar with the topics participants delt with them again by doing interviews on the topics with their partner ("expert") students. The interviews were filmed and are our most important final result of the cooperation. Another branche of our project was the work on the scientific research on different UNESCO related topics. Each country had chosen a different aspect (such as its history, its members and its activities but also the dangers it is exposed to in our current times) and on each of our finally 4 active meetings one of the topics was delt with, sometimes through workshops or presentations, sometimes through interactive games. On each meeting an IT workshop in a different field was held in order to improve IT competences of all participants. Last but not least each of the participating schools for sustainability reasons had to take in charge one heritage item in their surroundings in order to adopt responsability and to get involved actively. Besides these main activities organised on each meeting other formal or informal activities were held according to the local situation. E.g. the visit of the European Parliament done from Germany contributed to a better understanding of and a stronger relationship towards the EU. The visit tothe archeological site of Bibracte organised by the French team led to a deaper understanding of ancient times, The workshop on Customs and Traditions done by the Spanish team and the one on Sylbo Gomero, die Pfeifsprache, allowed learning through a lot of fun. And finally the different outings to places like tuna and olive factories or listening to a Fado concert sealed the international group close together through the shared positive moments. As students were hosted in guest families in all countries, intercultural knowledge and personal friendship were promoted. This was very much appreciated on all sides, students and adults alike and helped spread the contents of the project to a wider range of people including the local community.
