Cultural heritage/European Year of Cultural HeritageICT - new technologies - digital competences

Project summary

The planned project will deal intensively with the social and educational value tue European cultural heritage. This should be done by incorporating innovative methods and pedagogical ways of working. Especially the critical thinking and the resulting communication is supposed to make the pupils mature members of our European society. The pupils as well as tue teachers should acquire a competence increase in the area of sozial interaction, self-esteem, media and language competence. In addition to these goals, a product which can be used for the publik will bei created. The project will involve a German and a Norwegian school. The number of participants will be limited to 12 to 14 students per school. These groups of students are supported and accompanied by two teachers, who are familiar with the organization and the implementation of the project. The participating students are between 16 and 18 years old. To achieve the goals, mutual visits to the schools and visits to the project-relevant environment are planned. Between the visits, tue students are expected to do research according to their assigned topics. The results of These searches will be collected, processed and presented in a joint e-twinning project. The use of e-twinning should strengthen and simplify communication and collaboration. In order to achieve the desired results, various methods are used. The students should learn how to research in detail, how to handle and answer further questions which may aride in tue course of the project. Besides, they are trained to deal critically with given content and to question it. Likewise, they should learn to reflect on themselves weich offers them the chance to consciously incorporate their strengths into the project. As the students already attend upper secondary school, the independence of the SuS is increasingly set. During the implementation and rganization of the project suggestions and ideas of the involved parties should be taken into account and integrated. Thus, the self-competence of all participants should be strengthened. As a tangible result, a booklet on the regional components of the World Heritage for young people is intended. The students should present the contents in such a way that the interest of the young people for these topics is awakened. Especially for young people aged 16 to 18, there is little appealing material and that should be counteracted with the developed booklet. In addition to the tangible result, an increase regarding self-esteem and social competence among students and teachers should be achieved. The findings of a partnership and a stay abroad contribute significantly to the development of personality and the strengthening of the European idea. The long-term benefit of the project is divided into two parts. On the one hand, the existing brochure in the schools and communities can be used as illustrative material. On the other hand, the strengthening and development of intercultural competence contributes to the establishment of a European sense of community. The participating teachers can impart their knowledge and competence to the following vintages in order to strengthen their personality development as well. The participating students expand their own horizons and are thus prepared for the diversity of the upcoming, often internationalized professional life.

Final report summary

The implemented project dealt with numerous social and educational values of the world cultural heritage. The 15 German and 15 Norwegian pupils each received various assignments in preparation, which related thematically to the World Cultural Heritage of the participating regions. The SuS compiled what a World Heritage Site is, how a site, monument or various works become a World Heritage Site and why UNESCO has established a World Heritage Site. All results were processed in the first year in a small information flyer. This offers a short, concise but good overview of the topic. However, as the SuS consider an information flyer to be rather "boring", they had the idea of producing small films about the regional sites of the World Heritage Site. As the development of social and media skills were important goals of the project, SuS' request was naturally complied with and the results of the research were processed using multimedia. The 16 to 17-year-old pupils worked very well together and created a variety of products. Due to the age of the participants, the accompanying teachers left the implementation possibilities to SuS. The bilateral exchange between the partners worked very well, as the Norwegian pupils have much more experience in the field of media education than the German pupils. However, this did not pose a problem, as all participants were happy to learn something and all were happy to show the others how to create and edit videos. Dealing with the topic strengthened the intercultural competence of the participating pupils, but the skills of the 21st Century were also challenged and promoted The collaboration of all participants worked very well and was profitable for all. However, not only the 4 C's - communication, collaboration, creativity and critical thinking - were trained, but also the personal development of all participants is an important result of this project. The pupils now know that they are linguistically able to communicate in a foreign country without great difficulty. They know that cosmopolitanism and tolerance can open doors and open up new paths. They know that they can exist, organise and make decisions independently. It is precisely the development of our pupils into cosmopolitan, tolerant but also critical members of our society that paves the way for a distinct European idea that is supported and defended by the European nations. Of course it is great when children and young people can create a product together and present it with pride. But the main aim of the project was to strengthen and promote the children's personality - and this was achieved through lively exchange, collaboration, communication, creativity and also critical reflection. With the help of this project the pupils, but also the parents, teachers and pupils were and are prepared for a life and work in a united Europe.
