Project summary

The project title “Future Food” Culture and Resources 2021 relates to the topic of FOOD, which was elaborated from various angels and within the curriculums of the partner school. We worked with Food from Past to Future. The project was a three-year strategic partnership project with a focus on innovation and the exchange of good practices. The objectives of the project was aimed at three levels in all partner schools. A strategic, pedagogical and educational level. All project partners worked with internationalization and school development on a strategic level. The project aim was, through a “Meet and teach” approach, to improve teachers’ knowledge and experience to new pedagogical approaches that they brought back to their homeschools and implemented where it was possible. Differentiation and dynamics in teaching lead to a lift in intercultural competences and language skills. All institutions had an overall objective to improve learning processes and achievements in science related subjects. The National Ministries emphasize the need for better results in science related subjects and the focus on these are in all countries. Furthermore, all schools work with the United Nations’ goals for sustainable development, that includes several topics related to the overall theme of this project. We planned a European Cultural Heritage event in 2018 "Europe on a Plate". The project aimed to develop students and teachers’ perspective and their reflection on how such a fundamental thing as Food incapsules so many different views and subjects, both in an educational, international and cultural setting. The main target group was students and teachers in upper secondary colleges in five European countries. The students were aged 16-19. All students were in science related youth education and motivated for internalization. The following curriculums were involved: biotechnology, mathematics, chemistry, biology, physics, social science, history, reason and knowledge, marketing, English, engineering, technology, IT and communication. Each learning activity and workshop had different pedagogical approaches and involved all teachers in the teaching task. All partners were very strong in science related topics and with a strong emphasize on academic results, but with very different approaches to learning methods, didactic- and pedagogical approaches to the same subject and curriculum. Therefore, we worked with different pedagogical approaches in each workshop. Pedagogical approaches: Flipped classroom, problem based learning (PBL), assessment strategies (formative and summative), students’ self-evaluation, learning strategies and development. The project design consisted of six learning activities within the following topics: • Past - Present (history, marketing and social science, Germany) • Food and Body (biology, chemistry, mathematics and biotechnology, Denmark) • Friends or Foe? Good or evil? (Environment, chemistry, science technology, France) • Food and Society (Social science and history, Spain) • Public health / social issues (Social science, communication and technology, Austria) • Future food and innovation (reason and knowledge, biology, chemistry, mathematics and biotechnology, Denmark) The concrete objectives of our project were: • Educational exchange between both students and teachers, for improving high-quality competences • Exchanging on “best” educational practices • Fighting cultural stereotypes • Improving both the quality of learning for the students and the quality of teaching • Improving the quality and increasing the volume of partnerships and mobility for students between European countries and cross cultural collaboration learning in projects. Teaching tools: TED-Talk’s, data logging, CAD software, science related software, Indesign/photoshop, visual art, 3D printing, portfolio, blogs, podcasts and for communication; conference systems, social media, webinar and movie software. The project had a common website, hosted by the coordinating school where all results, both on the strategical level and educational level was shared.
