Project summary

"For a respectful and tolerant school" (FRATS) is a project whose main aim is to spread the PERSONA DOLL methodology, in order to promote a quiet and peaceful ambience at school by addressing and preventing intolerance, discrimination, violence and bullying. All of them are huge problems with teachers and pupils have to deal everyday more oftenly. Our society is a mixture of people from different countries with different languages, cultures, religions and races. Unluckily this situation is not always well accepted and different types of discrimination for several reasons are common in European democratic countries. On the other hand, violence problems at school such as bullying, lack of respect and tolerance for mates and teachers, and aggressive behaviour are increasing year by year in a really early age. In addition, children with special educational needs due to various reasons (diseases, immaturity, physical and physiologic problems, language delays, etc) are schooled in our classes and they need to feel included in classroom activities. For all these reasons we consider essential to increase children awareness about differences and to develop tolerant attitude towards the fact of being different both can be handled with children at very early age. Schools from 5 countries: France, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania and Spain are partners of this project and they will work with an innovative methodology called "Persona Doll" in two main fields: Firstly, it will be focused in teachers' work with the aims of developing Persona Dolls methodology and creating in cooperation with partners teacher training materials to disseminate project outcomes and methodology. Teachers in every partner school will participate in 4 training events during the 2 years of the project implementation. They will analyze, compare and report their educative systems focused on different topics: how does every school hand the teaching of values? How do they develop social skills in children or include children with special educational need? Are families involved in their children education? etc. The objective is to draw conclusions and recommendations to share for improving our school curriculums. Teachers also will created materials such as a handbook, video, webpages, etc. for training other teachers and school with the purpose of spreading the Persona Doll methodology. Secondly, the project will be implemented in every partner school, where activities related to Persona Doll methodology will be developed and carried out. Pupils in every school will participate in several activities such as I'm special wall, differences, week of the countries, rules for being a good classmate, doll visits and stories, etc. The impact of the activities in their behaviour and in the improvement of the ambiance in classes and schools will be evaluated through questionnaires, class diaries, check list, etc. in order to check if the Persona Doll methodology is efficacy for the aims proposed: • Prevent bullying and violence at school; • Develop and improve children social skills;• Increase tolerance. Children are aware of differences and find them as values; • Include children with special needs. Multi-cultural education broadens our knowledge of others by making us more respectful and tolerant with differences. The underlying idea of this international partnership is to work on raising the students' cultural awareness and to develop their understanding of the other people needs. We are sure that tolerance and respect come from knowledge, by promoting multiculturalism among our pupils we are promoting equality in order to eradicate any kind of discrimination. Throughout the two years this project aims to work for promoting fair attitudes of tolerance and non-discrimination among children and educational community. That means, the equal integration of every student, every teacher and every family, especially those who suffer from any kind of discrimination.
