A STep towards new European Learning: a digital and personalized approach, also known as the ASTEL project, started a new transnational partnership between the VET institutions, policy makers and companies from five partner countries for collecting, analysing and sharing best practices as well as for improving the quality and effectiveness of VET. The main objective of the project was to find answers and solutions to the needs of modernization and digitalization of VET. The project was addressing the needs of teachers, instructors and students for more varied study paths in Finland, Estonia, Belgium, Portugal and the Netherlands. Three general objectives of the ASTEL were: 1. Implementation of digitalization and the information systems used in the education system. 2. Flexible individual study paths including school’s admission procedures. Teacher’s new role in digital guidance and support services. 3. Flexible and innovative study environments, work-based learning. In the new transnational network, project members and organizations learned from each other and developed their education and training through international experience. Cooperating with international partners, developing educational models and learning from good practices were the benefits in getting closer to the innovative, modern and active school we want to achieve. The benefit for VET organization was to better prepare for the digital era we live in and to be able to offer their students tailor-made, digitally based learning programs. All these three main objectives were achieved during 6 transnational meetings and 3 trainings (LTT). The project followed the goal of training VET teachers and experts for innovative, digitalized methods of education. The main result of the project, the model to support schools in implementing inclusive education, was created in form of Summary of collected best practices (in English). All collected materials, reports and articles, both on national and transnational level, were collected on Cloud and most important shared on the project web-side https://astel.erasmusprojects.eu. The main result of the project was a model for supporting schools in implementing inclusive education according to collected experiences and material about new teaching, training and assessment methods. The most visible and powerful output of the project is the more effective support for a learner through different aspects of the learning process and hence it strengthens their progression in the education system. The project addressed the needs of both experts and students for more varied and challenging educational methods. The project should help to prevent the students’ drop-outs from school and to support the effectiveness of educational work providing more individual learning paths to study according to their abilities and make them more competitive on the labor market. We hope to incorporate the rapidly growing influence of digitalization into the curriculum, thus preparing the students for the world in which the use of digital technologies is constantly increasing. Such results and outputs of ASTEL project as the usage of new digital tools and know-how, new connections between new networks and improved international communication are maintained after the end of the project.

The main result of the project will be a model for supporting schools in implementing inclusive education. In the context of this project we expand the term so that in admission to a learning institution each student the needs are monitored individually so that the study path is inclusive. Therefore, it is crucial to monitor the process from the point of view of a student, develop and produce material, practices and support for teachers in order to create genuinely inclusive way of education. The most visible and powerful outcome of the project is the more effective support for a learner through different aspects of the learning process and hence it strengthens their progression in the education system.
