“InterCult: Intercultural Trainers Kit for Migrants’ Educators” aims at improving educators’ intercultural skills for delivering efficient language training to adult migrants through the development of an Intercultural Trainers Kit, providing principles and guidelines for work in a multicultural environment, application of techniques for promoting tolerance, diversity and inclusion in the learning process and application of intercultural teaching resources in different learning situations. Language training for adult migrants is extremely important from social, humanitarian, economic, and political points of view and there is therefore a need to ensure that such language learning services are relevant and effective in delivering the outcomes for which they exist. A key issue is whether institutions which provide language education and training for adult migrants have the infrastructure, expertise and resources to meet quality and efficiency criteria. The InterCult objectives are focused on: - Improving intercultural skills of adult language educators working with migrants through a variety of active learning methods for promoting interculturalism, tolerance and equality in the class room - Developing intercultural language teaching multimedia resources to be applied with adult migrants - Improving the effectiveness of the language teaching process and thus motivating migrants to get involved in learning The planned Intercultural Trainers Kit will provide different methodologies and techniques for improving educators’ skills related to mutual understanding, cultural dialogue, tolerance and inclusion, awareness raising on cultural specifics of migrants and utilization of opportunities to use these specifics in a learning environment, etc. The “theory” messages will be transferred in a practical context by application of visual tools and variations with case studies that will help educators support learners (adult migrants) in their cultural and social adaptation in the host country. Thus the language educators will gain a set of intercultural skills to apply in their work with migrants as well as new approaches and motivational boosters for engaging migrants in the learning process by paying special attention to their cultural and social specifics and needs. The project will directly target language trainers, educators and tutors (including volunteers) of adult migrants (indirect target group). The project partners will set up a network of associated partners from all partner countries and use them throughout the project for research and input, development of the main products, piloting, feedback, dissemination and impact opportunities. Language educators will be involved in train the trainer events in order to be trained how to use the Intercultural Kit and act as multipliers among educators and volunteers that work with migrants at national level. Events for exploitation of the project outcomes will also serve as a forum for discussion and feedback from the associated partners and use the project outcomes to kick-start a discussion among stakeholders and policy makers on current issues regarding the integration of migrants. The main project results include: - Improved intercultural skills of adult language educators working with migrants - Improved quality of the learning and teaching process for adult migrants and thus improved motivation of migrants to get involved in learning - Developed intercultural language teaching multimedia resources to be applied with adult migrants for encouraging participation - Improved capacities of organisations working for the integration of migrants with new approaches and motivational boosters for engaging migrants in a process of learning - Effective methodologies for integration of migrants through language education from 6 European countries and beyond - Continuous intercultural dialogue not only providing migrants with information on the cultural specifics of the receiving country but also giving them the opportunity to promote their own culture
The InterCult project aims at providing intercultural training to people involved in the support of migrants/refugees and their language support. The aim of the project is to contribute to the improvement of the conditions of accompaniment of migrants/refugees by enabling the accompaniers to acquire fundamental notions on the phenomena resulting from the encounter of several cultures and to sensitise them to an appropriate awareness. In this way, trainers and social actors who work in interface with migrants/refugees will be able to appropriate the opportunities offered by the InterCult Kit and use its specificities in a learning environment. Indeed, educators in formal and non-formal adult education institutions, institutions working with migrants/refugees, NGOs, language learning centres and even high school educators can also use part of the InterCult Kit curriculum or extract individual modules and incorporate them into their teaching process. The project results - InterCultural Trainers Kit and Training Programme - were designed after a research and analysis phase, in which a survey was conducted among different migrant groups of adult learners lcoming from Vietnam, Afghanistan, Ukraine, Chechnya, Syria, Romania, Somalia, the Sub-Saharan region, Latin America, Morocco, Iraq and Russia and living in France, Spain, Austria, Czech Republic, Italy, the Netherlands and Bulgaria. The aim was to collect data on the learning needs and specificities of different migrant groups in order to develop comprehensive training materials for use in multicultural learning groups A selection of 40 recognised and effective good practices (IO1), consisting of concrete positive fieldwork that can be replicated in various contexts within the seven partner countries, allowed us to demonstrate interesting and interactive language teaching techniques. The themes developed within the scope of the Intercultural Trainers Kit covered 1) Promotion of mutual understanding and cultural dialogue, cultural awareness; 2) Values and group dynamics; 3) Intercultural teamwork, benefits of effective teamwork, reflection on other group strengths. 4) Techniques for promoting interculturality, tolerance and diversity in learning. 5) Anti-racism, diversity, gender equality and human rights, intercultural awareness. 6) Problem solving, conflict situations. 7) Intolerance in general.
