Project summary

Europe is a continent marked by many borders that have changed throughout history. The borders, that once divided, have now been made much more accessible and negotiable within the Union. In a context where political forces are sometimes questioning this permeability, the project tends to show that boundaries are places of confrontation to others but especially areas of more intense exchanges that unite much more than they separate. Making borders less tangible is also accepting differences and exceeding their own limits. To develop these important and crucial notions, five European high schools from different horizons and countries propose to study all the aspects of the border concept: over time in history, along space in geography, in legal, political and economic points of view, in the literary and artistic fields and in different human and migratory relations. This multidisciplinary project is also plural in its modes of action and work: lectures, presentations, slideshows, newspapers articles, designs, exhibitions, videos, interviews, debates; all appealing widely to the ITC and synchronized in different well-defined sequences. The subjects, that may be sensitive, and modes of work, will allow students to become aware of all the aspects of the borders, to improve their skills for greater tolerance and better training in European citizenship . Teachers from each school also have a strong desire to work together on this issue, and the results will be disseminated to the widest possible audience.
