The main motivation of our project (“Imagine the city of the future”) is to contribute to the emergence of an European citizenship. Creating an European collaboration in order to imagine and then "build" together the city of tomorrow is a great illustration of what citizenship means, isn’t it ? The ability to live together in a same and shared space. First, our pupils will "dream" about their ideal city. Then, they will have to take a more rational approach: identifying and listing the needs of the future population, then inventing and finding solutions to satisfy these needs. Their final production will be a model of this city of the future. There are three steps in this project : The first step is imagining and listing the needs of the population, imagining how these needs and places will change in the future and how to satisfy these needs. This work will be done in each country/school partner. We will ask our pupils to write short stories (through collaborative writings) and to illustrate (with drawings or photos) the city of their dreams. We will ask them to imagine a name, a crest, a motto, an anthem for their city. Each partner will then select some of these works to be exhibited. Each partner will study the evolution of their own city (or nearby cities) through time, urban planning and architectural aspects. The second step is designing our city of the future. Each partner will work on a specific theme, which will be defined during our first meeting: energies of the future, transports of the future, new materials, waste treatment, citizenship in the city, artificial intelligence, urban planning and architecture... The third step is building our city. Each partner will take part to the building of a model, according to a distribution of tasks we will have decided during a previous meeting. We are planning to make a virtual model of our city, and in Amnéville we are counting on the support of Eiffel high school and on their digital skills to help us. We will decide later on whether we will also build a real model of our city as well. Each partner will be in charge of building one neighborhood or one aspect of this city. Each partner will also design three robots, relating to self-driving transports, in order to take part to an international competition during the final meeting in Amnéville in May 2020. The activities made throughout the project will be part of the learning programs of each country, they will support teaching and facilitate the acquisition of skills in a project pedagogical approach. Many school subjects will be involved: literature (science-fiction, short stories), arts (drawings, photos), history, geography, science and technology/ICT. All the pupils of a same age group will work on the project (5ème and 4ème classes in France). Special attention will be given to the participation of pupils facing learning difficulties (cognitive or disabilities). All in all, 600 pupils will be directly involved in the project and more than 5000 teenagers and parents will be impacted by it. Three learning activities are scheduled, involving the mobility of 156 pupils and 36 staff members. We have chosen to study and work on three different aspects: - citizenship in the city - ecology - public transports of the future Experts will give conferences on these themes. We will visit companies, institutions, and key places regarding architecture and urban planning, as part of pedagogical activities. The pupils who will take part to these learning activities will have to present their work to the classmates who stayed in their home country. We will select the pupils who will travel abroad, making sure to include pupils with learning difficulties or disabilities. These pupils will create a travel book or blog on Etwinning. A large media coverage of the project will be done through printed and broadcast media in each country. Through this project, we are aiming at : -encouraging the creativity and imagination of our pupils - encouraging their mobility inside the European Union - extending their basic skills and citizenship - improving their practice of foreign languages - increasing their digital skills by working with different media - increasing international cooperation in our schools Finally, this project will enable our teachers to improve their teaching practices, thanks to different exchanges throughout our collaboration on one hand, and thanks to a study of different educational methods during each mobility on the second hand. The large media coverage of our project (both in printed and broadcast media) as well as regular information given to parents in each partner school will value the European Union. We also have the support of a superior school (ESITC), the European Institute of Ecology of Metz, and the municipality of Amneville, which will guarantee quality and a large broadcast to our project.

The third step was to “build” our city online, on Minecraft. Each partner had to build a specific area/neighborhood of this city, according to the choices we had decided during the first meeting in Denmark. In Amnéville, we could count on the support of our high school partner and on their digital skills to help us. Each partner also designed different robots of the future, relating to self-driving transports and future jobs. We had planned to organize an international competition during the final meeting in Amnéville in May 2020, but we unfortunately had to do it virtually, and during a videocall, since we had to postpone this last meeting to February 2021 because of the pandemic crisis, and to reorganize this meeting as a virtual one.
