Project summary

he EUROTECH project is part of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018, as it is an action which contributes to raising awareness of the importance of the European cultural heritage through education and lifelong learning as foreseen by the call priority . In fact, the project tackles a specific target in order to increase the level of qualifications and enhance the chances of professional careers for the figure of the classic archaeologist, helping to increase the number of jobs in museums, research centers, archaeological sites and in the superintendencies. The target to which the EUROTECH project is addressed includes students of the faculties of letters and archeology of different levels: BSc, MSc, PhD, and also the professionals of the public sectors (museums, superintendencies, archaeological sites) and private sectors. The establishment of a consortium attended by academic partners and private partners makes it possible to make the curriculum provided by the EUROTECH model as a permanent training path as well as creating new jobs in both the public and private sectors. In fact, it defines a new professional figure, competitive on the current job market, thanks also to the intervention of ICTs that make the innovative project in compliance with the priorities set by the program. The aim is also to develop an academic curriculum for a professional course aimed at improving the professional skills of the classical archaeologist who in a second step can be converted into a Postgraduate Diploma or a Master's Degree. Consequently, the training course in addition to the recognition of ECTS credits will acquire EQF characteristics and will, therefore, be recognized at the European level, respecting the criteria of transparency and quality to facilitate access to the European labor market. The modules that constitute the pilot model will also be rendered as OER open courses available on e-learning platform, this will allow professionals to update at any time on specific techniques and application systems, in respect of the second horizontal priority selected. The modules will be translated into English in order to reach international target groups and overcome language barriers. The choice of integrating modules with innovative applications, such as GIS systems, augmented reality and virtual reality, as well as video lessons, allows to go beyond the traditional learning methodology and favor the inclusion of ICT technologies also in academic training. The use of a learning method combining lectures in the presence and online (blended), in accordance with the provisions of the European Commission on the openness of education, stimulates the motivation of students and improves the effectiveness of learning. In the practical training courses included in the EUROTECH model, ICT technologies will be integrated to simulate and recreate real situations that will enable learners to improve their technical skills and their problem-solving skills. The innovative methodology also allows to acquire new methods of learning and evaluation, focusing more on what the learner is able to do rather than on the simple acquisition of information or on what the learner is able to repeat, this will be made possible thanks the insertion of virtual environments and augmented reality applications and practical applications.

Final report summary

Although the period has been affected by the problems of the pandemic situation,EuroTeCH project has successfully completed numerous activities and has reached results far beyond those predicted in the application of the project. CONTEXT/BACKGROUND OF THE PROJECT. In Archaeology, and in particular for the Archaeology of sites at risk, there is the need nowadays of international as well as interdisciplinary approach.Especially for this purpose, together with the partners and the associates, several other associated partners have been involved, which have allowed to develop professionalizing topics and have determined more possibilities for field trainings,to test methodological and technological protocols. In addition to the associates already in the project (BeGeCo GeoPlan e ICA del MIC/MIBACT),other associates have been involved both for the outputs, as well as for the Mult.Events and for the Courses, as: CAT (Canterbury Archaeological Trsut, Uk), CIA (Confederazione Italiana Archeologi professionisti), MP&T Engeneering -Verona, Nucleo Tutela Patrimonio Beni Culturali of Italian Carabinieri, CEDAD Lab in Salento, Soprintendenze Archeologiche di Abruzzo, Lazio, Roma, Etruria, FBI Art Crimes USA, Police of Greece, Cyprus, France and Spain, several Departments of Antiquities of Cipro, Shahat e Tripoli (Libya), Luxor (Egypt), the Cultural Associations ACSES (for the study of Egypt and Sudan)and Ausonius (France), the Research Centre ICAC-Spain OBJECTIVES, RESULTS AND IMPACTS. The main aims of the project have been reached greatly, both concerning the outputs, as well as for projecting and accreditation of 2 master courses (STArch-Sciences and technologies for Archaeology at risk at Chieti and an MSC in Digital Cultural Heritage which has been accredited by the Cyprus Institute), as well as several PhD (5);moreover, the results have been reached also through exhibitions, conferences, courses, archaeo-webinars, online courses, events for a wider dissemination and so on. Among the main results of the outputs also numerous scientific papers must be mentioned, which have been published in the three year project, as well as 3 volumes. Moreover, several videos, docu.films, interview have been realized, with the help of teachers and students and have been then uploaded on the website of the project(https://eurotech.udanet.it/) or in facebook for a wider dissemination. Some of the EuroTeCH ArchaeoWebinars and of the online professionalizing Courses (as sSIGEC-WEB courses and of GeoPortale ICCD) have been opened also to the professional figures working in this context. Therefore, the results have been reached not only within the limits of the project, but also with long term impact, because the masters are continuing and have more than 20 students, and they will continue, as the PhD with external funds, guaranteeing the sustainability of these courses. Moreover, the idea to open many activities to external institutions and professional figures has determined a wide impact in European and extra-European countries. ACTIVITIES AND NUMBER AND TYPE/PROFILE OF PARTICIPANTS. The participants attending to the activities have been mainly BA, MA and MpHil students, together with PhD and Post-Doc researchers coming from the partners, as well as scholars and technicians which have participated as teachers, together with professional figures which had the possibility to attend to the activities thanks to the collaboration CIA/UniCH/Pegaso; in this way they have participated to professionalizing courses as Preventive Archaeology, Databases , 3D Photo-Digital Modelling, Protocols for Archaeology at risk, and so on. The numbers of the peoples involved have been more numerous of what we have planned in the application, with: 13 participants for C1, 18 for C2, 31 for C3, 31 for C4, 9 for C5, 9 for C6, 47 for C7, 22 for C8 and C9, completely online, with 163 participants. The TPM saw the active participation of the partners.
