The project is built on three needs: those of the European Union, those addressed by the Erasmus+ programme and the needs of the social and educational values of the European Cultural Heritage as a fly-wheel for job creation economic growth and social cohesion. Achieving a smart, sustainable and inclusive economy- as set out in the Europe 2020 Strategy - is a crucial challenge for EU. “Inclusive growth means empowering people through high levels of employment, investing in skills, fighting poverty and modernising labour markets, training and social protection systems so as to help people anticipate and manage change, and build a cohesive society… (EU 2020 Strategy).” Erasmus+ 2014/202 has main objective to fight the rising levels of unemployment - particularly among young people, but the same risk threatens many adults with low skills - that becomes one of the most urgent tasks for European Governments. In this context, the European Year of Cultural Heritage will stress the need for European people to get more and more in touch with Europe’s great cultural heritage. As the EU slogan says “Our heritage: where the past meets the future” 2018 will be a key moment to delve into Europe’s cultural and historical attractiveness and to link it to new horizons. The main concept behind Cultural Heritage is that it represents an important resource for economic growth, employment and social cohesion, offering the potential to revitalise urban and rural areas and promote sustainable tourism.
