Objectives

The main objective of this project was to maintain sustainability for a previous Erasmus+ KA1 project. Non-language teachers especially CLIL teachers showed their interest in continuing language and CLIL courses on a European level. The main objective of language and CLIL courses is that teachers should get high quality input by native speakers and also experts in the field of CLIL which can be used and integrated later on in lower and higher classes of the BG/BRG Judenburg. The planned training courses should also provide current and future CLIL teachers with professional CLIL and professional language training to boost their self-confidence and motivation of using English on a daily basis and integrating CLIL in their classes. The second main objective was to spread the European concept of the BG/BRG Judenburg also among teachers. Our school wanted to install a team of qualified teachers that knows the concept of successful European schools, standardized project management processes and methodological and didactic strategies. The school strategy aims to bear comparison with international standards which can only be reached with internationally gained experiences and trainings.

Background

Curriculum relevant aspects: Bilingual classes are taught in all levels at school. To provide students (ST) with high quality classes teachers need to be trained in how to teach non-language classes in English. School development plan: the school stated in the school development plan to offer CLIL training for non-language teachers. Staff competences and teachers support: Teachers stated need to get special training in up-to date methods and didactic approaches in CLIL teaching in order to be able to offer bilingual classes. Preparation of students for labour market/university: parents and students stated the need to get CLIL courses at scholl. Bilingual teaching in non-language classes eg. biology, arts, geography, history, chemistry etc. give students special training and knowledge in certain fields. CLIL classes also prepepare them better for the labour market/university and decrease the drop out number of students. Implementation of innovative teaching methods: In CLIL training in foreign countries teachers had access to totally new teaching methods and approaches in native English languages. They did not only improve their teaching skills but also language, social and cultural skills.
