One goal was the acquisition of digital competences by taking part in teacher training activities, thus ensuring the professionalization of the teaching staff at our school. By knowing about and using new digital resources and programs teachers should be able to use them competently and confidently in order to impart the syllabus efficiently and in a varied way to their students. Apart from that, it was important to make students of all ages familiar with the proper use of digital media so that they turn from "digital natives" into "digital navigators" who can responsibly find their way around the Internet - in school as well as in daily life.
Even before the pandemic started, we had become aware that staff at our school needed to catch up on digital competences. We had realized how important it is to cater for the demands of today's "digital natives" by providing them with well-trained and competent teaching staff. First of all, the focus was on enhancing our teachers' key competences and digital skills. Besides, we wanted to make sure that our students are enabled to acquire digital competences in all subjects in order to ensure that digital competences are embedded in our school culture as demanded by the Austrian curriculum.
