With this project, Landjugend Österreich wanted to achieve the following goals for young people in rural areas. Facilitate international mobility in agriculture for many students of LFS and HLFS: For pupils of agricultural schools it is almost impossible to complete an international internship without support. Few teachers have experience in coordinating international placements. Many families cannot afford the costs. With this project we wanted to make it easier for the students to decide for an international internship. Improving language & promoting linguistic diversity: Being able to speak English is almost compulsory in our society. English lessons are often not enough, especially in the LFS. The Landjugend is concerned to promote the English language and this can be improved most effectively through international mobilities. Understanding and acceptance of interculturality: The students live with their host families for several weeks during their internship. The students experience tolerance and understanding towards foreign cultures through the mobility.
Landjugend Österreich is with about 90,000 members the largest youth organisation in rural areas. The focus of our organisation is on the positive development of our young people and the positive shaping of our environment. With the project "Intercultural understanding & acquisition of agricultural competences" we wanted to support young adults to complete an agricultural internship in Europe. The project participants are between 15 and 20 years old and attend an agricultural vocational school (LFS) or a higher agricultural school (HLFS) in Austria. During their education, the students have to complete a compulsory agricultural internship between 4 and 52 weeks in different agricultural fields. The students can do this mandatory internship abroad. The organisation of an international agricultural internship requires a lot of effort and high costs. Without support, it is difficult for the students to complete an internship abroad. With this project, we were able to offer interested students an international internship through intensive supervision and financial support
