Objectives

In our daily work, we are increasingly confronted with questions concerning values and attitudes that refer to the field of political education. We want to react to this. The programme has helped us to get in touch with methods that offer opportunities to talk about values and attitudes in a non-directive, authoritarian way. We experienced that the use of language - also through a new understanding of translation processes - and creative writing form an auspicious basis of the conversation. The former was addressed to the adult educators who need to understand that language conveys much more than simple content, that language is connected to history and emotions, etc. With regard to creative writing, our hope was confirmed that the confrontation with one's own life, one's own attitudes and perspectives helps to become aware of one's own socio-political positions. This is the prerequisite for a discussion about changes in the areas of democratic values, gender awareness, anti-racism, non-violence. That working with one's own texts enables a good exchange. We wanted to know if Simon Weil is right when she writes that it is impossible to simply state a truth, whatever it may be, because nobody simply listens. It needs a reason for attention, a reason like friendship, admiration, sympathy. "Whether, then, truth spreads among men depends entirely on the state of their feelings towards each other; and this is true of all kinds of truths." ( Simone Weil: Rootedness. p.191.) We got in touch with new models for engaging with diverse groups in conversation about their views, attitudes and values, models that build trust. Different workshop formats were developed. Objectives were: - To get to know methods that create a learning environment in which people talk about their attitudes, views and values. - To get to know methods that help people to reflect on their own attitudes. - to get to know approaches and theories on the topic of communicating and reflecting on values - understand the work on the topic of values as part of political education and develop and test appropriate - develop and test appropriate formats

Background

uniT works at the interface of art and education and has a wide range of activities that address both highly qualified (especially authors) and educationally disadvantaged people (especially migrants, refugees). We are very successful with our qualification programmes for young authors / playwrights, as their career paths show. (Their plays are performed on many stages in the German-speaking world, also in large theatres). Again and again we involve the authors/playwrights who have completed the programme - as well as other artists - in the work with the second group mentioned, the educationally disadvantaged learners. Over time, we have developed a special approach - LERNKUNST. This involves consciously using informal learning processes of artistic-creative processes and developing learning environments that make people want to learn. With this approach we offer courses for educationally disadvantaged people. Currently, we work mostly on a daily basis with young people, mainly refugees. The main focus is on basic education and receiving compulsory school education and on offers that enable the persons to access the labour market and to foster their integration into the host society. We also see parts of our educational work as political education, as it is about teaching democratic values, gender awareness, anti-racism, non-violence, etc. This part is becoming increasingly important. This part is becoming more and more important, so we want to develop it further and use artistic-creative methods and strategies. We have used the mobilities to learn more about this.
