Objectives

The Training Course “U Facilitating U”, which came as a follow-up of the TC “Training for Trainers” organized by POPEDU Austria – formerly Mladiinfo Austria, was thought and designed to improve the work of the youth workers in facilitating the learning experiences with the target groups of Young people. The aim was to equip the participants with knowledge and practical experience, building the on the capacity of the youth workers and leaders in their facilitation competencies , in order for them to be able to implement quality non-formal education youth activities on the topics which are priority of the Erasmus+ Programme and the young people of their respective communities. In this Training Course we really wanted to but a bigger focus on the local level, as the feedback received from our National Ageny on the last year TC, aiming at imporving the local based youth work and increase local youth participantion. Therefore, on a first step all our partners has submitted a list of needs related to facilitating groups of young people: these were issues the organization are facing in general in their organisations and target groups. As a second step, all selected participants submitted: 1. The specific needs for their own youth worker facilitation development 2. The organisations needs related to facilitating groups 3. Their strengths and weaknesses related to the ETS Competence Model for Youth Workers As a result, some of the needs were similar and overlapping several times, while some of them were really specific. On this basis, the trainers team collected the more relevant – needs like working with difficult behaviours, public speaking, running debriefs, asking questions etc - and included them in the programme, during the “needs session”: the last session of each day was though to have three parallel workshops on the topics highlighted prior the arrival of participants. That was thought because what we wanted to provide was a project consisting in a generic training course on developing facilitation skills and, at the same time, create a bespoke custom made training for each participant to meet their facilitation needs. The objectives we wanted to achieve are clearly stated as follows: O1. To explore and develop facilitators skills, attitudes, knowledge, behaviors, values and competences O2. To support the participants in identifying their strengths and needs in their facilitation of youth groups O3. To provide individual developmental opportunities O4. To develop competencies in delivering workshops and activities on identified needs of Young people O5. To create opportunities to practice and build on existing facilitation competencies through peer assessment O6. To foster collaboration at European level, within the Erasmus+ framework between NGOs Lastly, the project was also an opportunity for reaching out to new partners for future cooperation and spread our message around the European public sphere. In this way, the strnghts of the partners as organisations dedicated to European integration and promotion of European youth work were outsourced to other local, national, European associations ensuring quality in the training offer on these topics. The training course supported and developed the quantity and quality of youth workers able to run educational activities and foster active learning of the young people they work with. With no doubt, the project strnghtened the capacities of the partners and contributed to increasing the qulity of youth projects realized in the frames of Erasmus+ Programme.
