Objectives

We wanted to realize the development of a general vision on the concept of an extended school for schools in the Bruges region. Put Bruges on the map as an extended school community and develop a plan to provide subsidies to every primary school in Bruges that wants to take steps to become an Extended School (each within their own DNA and possibilities).

Background

"Brede School" (= extended school) is a hot item for the city of Bruges. An extended School is a partnership between different sectors, including one or more schools that work together to create a broad learning and living environment in leisure time and at school, offering maximum development opportunities for all children and young people. Bruges aims to turn every primary school in Bruges into an extended school. In order to gain inspiration in other countries the Department of Educational Policy of the City of Bruges has started this project in a consortium with 6 primary schools that have already started taking steps in this theme.
