Sixteen care coordinators, care teachers, student counselors, teachers and a director from eight primary schools and three secondary schools of GO! Scholengroep Brussel and a VGC educational institution for special secondary education have completed the entire training process to become a Child and Youth Coach. In this way they were able to acquire the necessary theoretical insights, as well as the practical skills, tools and attitudes to guide and support their pupils at different levels in a broad and yet tailor-made way, together with the parents and the entire school team. By working together at different levels of education (pre-school, primary, secondary, special education), with various organizing bodies (GO! Scholengroep Brussel and VGC) and various support services (Pedagogical counseling services and Center for Pupil Guidance), the aim was to provide a range of expertise acquire, build a network of coaches and create a broad, structured and inclusive care policy, which can increase the impact and help more learners.
The Dutch-speaking Brussels schools of the Education of the Flemish Community (GO!) and the Flemish Community Commission (VGC) strive to offer quality education tailored to each student, regardless of but also taking into account the origin, background, home situation, religion, culture , nationality, language or baggage. By focusing on a broad, inclusive and structured care policy at different levels with tailor-made pupil guidance, in which the parent and school enter into a (close) partnership and in which specific attention is paid to educational career guidance, studying and learning and psychological and social functioning, we aim to promote social inclusion and provide equal educational opportunities for all. This is also expected from the Decree on Pupil Guidance, which has been in force since school year 2019 and which applies as a condition fr recgnition. However, this requires a certain expertise and specific skills that our school teams have not always been given in their training.
