Objectives

Our school has already gone through an entire process from playground renovation to school sustainability where we have used our new playground as a catalyst to integrate sustainable development goals into classroom practices and our policy vision. As an urban school, we want to provide opportunities for neighborhood and school children to explore back into the natural environment. Also external organizations such as scouts, parents, etc. we want to make use of this natural climate playground. The new ZILL curriculum therefore invites us to explore and develop these developmental goals. Teachers are hereby encouraged to delve into this new curriculum. We want to provide opportunities for our team to gain experience in outdoor teaching by having team members take various courses and reinforce this in classroom practice. Outdoor learning and outdoor teaching should have a full place in the school's curriculum. Therefore, we wish to introduce our team to this topic in very diverse ways.

Background

We want to raise our children to become conscious global citizens with an eye for sustainability, ecology and respect for people and nature. We create a school where the well-being of every student is high and the connectedness between all children is maximum. We want to raise our students to be people who respect nature and fellow human beings. If we as teachers in our society want to take the lead in a social change to be more conscious of our environment, then our pedagogy and education must serve this goal. The Sustainable Development Goals have their place in this at the school and are therefore put to full use in the lessons. We live in an urbanized environment where for many urban children there are still few opportunities for experiential learning in a natural environment. Thus, we want to promote the psychological and physical well-being and health of many children from the school and from the city. The school experiences that it currently lacks know-how around outdoor teaching. In function of our sustainability policy, we want to gain insight into how different countries deal with a green environment as a key to promote sustainable development.
