Four GO! tourism schools, being Campus Wemmel, Campus Redingenhof, Atheneum Emanuel Hiel and Atheneum Oudenaarde, led by GO! Scholengroep Brussel joined forces in this project for the organisation of an 8-week internship at camping parks in France. For the students of the 6th year TSO tourism and the 7th year BSO Specialised Recreational Employee it was their joint goal to put theory into practice by using skills acquired at school in real-life work situations, to have pupils train their independence, self-reliance and to learn how to communicate effectively in a different (cultural) environment, where the intense contact with colleagues and customers cannot but improve their linguistic competence.
In the context of the secondary education reform in Flanders, GO! Education of the Flemish Community (GO!) and its different tourism schools are striving for the implementation of modern-day and innovative tourism trainings which live up to the expectations of the labour market and offer graduating tourism pupils all possible chances. Given the fact that tourism is a particularly international economic sector, the trainings that focus merely on the country itself do not cut it. In order to prepare pupils properly for their later role in the tourism sector it is necessary that they broaden their perspective outside of Belgium, not only to be inspired by a foreign labour market and ethos, but also because that is where they will be confronted with wishes, expectations and behaviour of travellers from many different countries.
