At the end of the project, we will have at least 50 digital stories illustrating the struggles Roma parents face, made by the adult learners and 50 stories made by other adults in Europe or elsewhere in the world to illustrate the right of Roma minorities to a normal life through learning to talk and ask for their rights as parents in schools. All those stories can be used all over Europe for educational use in all kind of educational situations. In the described methodology, we will provide a photo-language set made to incite the adult learners to think and tell about human rights and develop guidelines and background information for practitioners who want to integrate the methods in their daily practice.
Strengthening collaboration among schools and Roma families, and any other external stakeholders, improving transition between different stages of education, supporting networking between schools and families, which promote collaborative and holistic approaches to teaching and learning; improving evaluation and quality assurance. In this project we desired to foster the development of social, civic and intercultural competences and tackle discrimination in schools, segregation, racism, bullying or violence.
After working for many years with the Roma minorities, trying to help them integrate, find a job and breaking poverty, we realised that one of the biggest impediment in their job search or after finding employment is the refuse of the children to go to school, which often turns in school abandon. The result is that at least one of the parents, mostly mothers, is forced to stay at home. With Dreams project we aimed to give to Roma parents the possibility to integrate on the employment market but also learn them to speak and identify the struggles their children claimed to have at school. Parents learned to let themselves be heard, learned to communicate with the schools in order to build a beter future for their children and for themselves.
