Having started a multitude of internal qualification possibilities for our staff in 2017-2018, we would like to further qualify some of them with new skills and digital competences, such as the use of foto and video to bridge the digital gap between teachers, the creation af apps or the use of digital competences in the context of entrepreneurship are amongst the choices of teacher courses. Through teacher trainings in the domains of inclusion we would like to prepare our staff to tackel the challenges coming with diversity, heterogenity, multiculturalism and interculturalism. The part-time integration of new pupils from all over the world necessitates qualifying measures for our staff, in order to guarantee a succesful part-time integration and finally an inclusion in regular schooling for the newly arrived pupils. New challenges although contain new risks if we neglect health and wellbeing issues. To avoid that we want to face these challenges proactively and have thus selected a series of teacher courses dealing with mindfulness, stress management and health and security issues.
School development has always been a very important objective for Pater-Damian-Secondary School. Part of it is the development of competent teachers on many different levels. Since the start of the Erasmus+ campaign we have therefore used KA1 projects as a supplementary means to provide further training to our teachers and other staff members. As our school is currently dealing with two bigger areas of change: digitalisation and migration who both have a considerable impact on the well-being of teachers as routines have to change and new teaching methods have to be established. Taking part in European teacher trainings or structured teacher trainings as the EU calls them, is an enriching and gratyfying experience for the participants. As schools have only few possibilities to honor their teachers commitment, we have opted to offer them the possibility not only to develop new competencies and acquire new knowledge and ideas while leaving their ordinary background, to allow them at the same time to meet teachers from all around Europe and to discover new teaching and learning skills. Our experience shows, that this is very much appreciated by our teachers and that it boosts their engagement and commitment in our school.
