Objectives

The socio-artistic organizations Madam Fortuna (Antwerp) and Bij’ De Vieze Gasten (Ghent) from Belgium, the sociocultural organization Association MIR from Skopje, Macedonia and the educational and cultural organization Taller de Músics Private Foundation from Barcelona organize a youth mobility programme for young Roma participants and youth from other cultures. The programme is situated in the socio-artistic project 'The European Caravan', which, through music, theatre, and debate, finds a way into the Roma community. The Roma community is the largest (12 million) and single most discriminated community in Europe. Through working with Roma, all partner organizations involved are confronted with Roma's reality of exclusion and negative imaging. We want to counter this by: - Focusing on the pure artistry of Roma culture. - Reclaiming the common ground between Roma participants and participants from other cultures through music, theatre, informal exchange of cultural customs (conversation, cooking, literature, film), visits to youth work organizations, reflection. - Stimulating youth to meet what initially is strange to them and having them build a collective imagination through practicing art.
