We want to improve the competences and skills of youths in vulnerable situations who are difficult to reach. We want to encourage active participation in society and in the labor market of these youths. We want to give youths in vulnerable situations the chance to go abroad to open their horizon. We believe that the international dimension of this group exchange promotes diversity and intercultural / interreligious dialogue. The participants with fewer opportunities and in vulnerable situations get the chance to take the initiative. They chose the theme: What is happiness? The project is about discovering, valorating and exchanging their talents, skills and competences (peer-learning); about their personal development and finding a way to feel more happy, about expanding their horizon, conquering fear to realize something, offering them success experiences, intercultural / interreligious learning, learning about group dynamics and about your own place in a group (non-formal and informal learning). The group exchange is our tool to give participants new energy and strengthen their self-confidence. They can develop themselves further in a positive learning environment, and that with the help of values like respect for yourself, the other and the surroundings; tolerance, freedom, fair play, diversity and teamwork. We want to empower the youngsters to become lifelong learners with more self-confidence and passion for their own development in their life beyond the actual group exchange. We bring them in contact with their own passion for learning, to increase awareness of their own learning (informal and non-formal), to strengthen them as a learner and to encourage a positive approach towards learning. We want to give young people in vulnerable positions a voice, a place in the social debate. We want to emancipate these youths and make them aware of what rights they have and how they can achieve them. We want to work together to enforce certain human rights (eg the right to have a roof above their head). With this exchange we want to improve critical thinking. We think together with the participants how they can strive for happiness, in the position in which they are now. We learn them techniques how to feel better. We want to do this because it will benefit their structural life-battle. Knowing who you are, what you stand for, what you need, how you can achieve this, helps you to stand firmly in your shoes. This way the youths in vulnerable positions will be able to handle their life-battle in a more positive way. This group exchange will be a breeding ground for a next structural theme to work on after the group exchange. We worked for a long time around housing. In which life domain are these youths in vulnerable positions still strongly confronted with exclusion mechanisms? We would like to ask the question differently: "Which things would you like to see changed, so that it would make you a happier person?" (Dream formulating). Which structural mechanisms are involved and where can we compete for change? The participants with fewer opportunities will reflect on these topics and formulate recommendations for policy-makers. We want to facilitate in a positive way youths ability to overcome the structural exclusion mechanisms that they face. With the personal experiences of youths in vulnerable situations as a base, we want to share our recommendations with policy-makers (local, regional, national and international) to support and improve youth policies. They will identify common values with other cultures and challenge viewpoints that perpetuate inequality (intercultural / interreligious dialogue). Practicing English / Spanish and learning about ecology are also important. We will work about improving competences like resilience, self-confidence, increasing self-sufficiency, independence and expansion of the network. We want to strengthen cohesion in the group, group bonding. This group cohesion is important in sharing experiences and performing actions. We want to support young people living in vulnerable positions with help requests with direct support and counseling (follow-up). The group exchange will help to build up trust between the coordinators and the youths in vulnerable positions from whom questions/ experiences come up. We want to improve the quality of youth work, in our organizations and other organizations who work with youths in vulnerable positions. With this project we want to prevent that these youths in vulnerable positions radicalize. We want to share our practices with other organizations. We will exchange non-formal learning methods about the theme of happiness (exchanging good examples). We want to inspire other organizations and explore opportunities for possible future projects and partnerships with youths in vulnerable positions. We want to support the recognition of non-formal and informal learning in our organizations, other organizations and policy-makers.
