Objectives

The “Let’s go online” Training Course for youth workers was created on the basis of three elements identified by MIJARC Europe- which influence the participation of rural youth in decision making processes: (i) young people do not know how to approach local authorities and ask for their support or they feel that public authorities in general are not interested in cooperating with youth; (ii) the feeling that they are too little to change anything or that a single action would not make any difference blocks young people's initiatives and keeps them trapped in the same thinking pattern; (iii) most young people are unaware of how information and communication technologies could be used to meaningfully participate. Thus, the project aims at preparing young people to integrate new forms, places and mechanisms of youth participation in their daily lives and in the practices of their organizations. MIJARC Europe believes that democratic participation through technology is the way to reach young people, as it makes it easy for youth to participate, however, to succeed in helping youth become active e-citizens we need to provide them with the correct information and the available tools that can be easily engaged. The aim is pursued through the following objectives: - increase young people's ability to navigate the online world safely, securely and with a critical mind; - improve young people's understanding of a variety of tools that allow for online participation; - explore means in which young people and youth organizations could use e-forms of participation to reach their objectives; - promote positive youth development and active citizenship at the local/national and European level; - increase the involvement of young people in the social life in local communities and develop projects.
