Based on: 1) "Erasmus+" priorities for 2019 related to "improving media literacy, critical thinking and young people's sense of initiative" 2) The challenges for young people related to the raise of the digital economy in the context of the building a 5G Gigabit society by the year of 2525 as foreseen by the EC ; 3) The new Art. 33: "Member States shall take measures to develop media literacy skills"; 4) 2/8 areas of action of the EU Strategy for Youth (renewed) - "Social inclusion" and "Youth and the World"; 5) The EP Resolution (2017 / C 366/08), which links the situations of exclusion of young people and the "hate speech", 6) Paris declaration on Promoting citizenship and the common values of freedom, tolerance and non-discrimination through education (accepted by the EU in 2015), Bulgarian Memory Foundation (FBI), together with Macedonian-Bulgarian Friendship Association, R.Macedonia and the Municipality of the Bulgarians in ATG Gagauzia, R.Moldova initiated a project on the topic: Enhancing critical thinking, sense of initiative and fundamental values among youth through the development of media literacy, digital and civic competences. In the context of the above, the project aims to develop specific digital, media, social and civic competences through the methods of non-formal education in 60 young people aged 15-24. (Over 1/3 of different ethnicity and low social status) from the Republic of Bulgaria, the Republic of Macedonia and Moldova as opportunities to promote their * critical thinking and sense of initiative in view of * effective transmission of the fundamental social values. The event will take place within a five-days-long exchange activity in Sofia, Bulgaria and the participants will be aged 15-24. (More than 1/3 of them with different ethnic-religious backgrounds and low social status). The project directly corresponds to the objectives and activities of KA1, "Erasmus+" program, providing for mobility through youth exchanges, which will extend young people's opportunities for participation in society. With this project, we would like to achieve a sustainable effect in the respective local communities of the young people thus meeting their needs needs related to their professional and societal realization. I addition motivation for the realization of this project s related with the fact that the specific needs, which the project meets, have been identified by young people themselves. In the course of the target group's needs assessment process the young people identified and summarized that they need to develop the following: 1) Digital competencies that allow effective and efficient use of online resources, analysis and application of information, prioritization of sources and content with guaranteed online safety; 2) Social and civic competences allowing active citizenship, socially responsible communication and active involvement of young people in society and in socially relevant topics and problems, especially in smaller settlements. Also, there is a need of stimulating and promoting fundamental values with a focus on democracy, equal opportunities and tolerance underlying the EU - a Union of values respecting freedom and human rights, including the rights of persons belonging to minorities. 3) Media literacy, enabling critical thinking skills, working with media content, seeking assessment, using and creating content and emotional intelligence. The development of civic and digital media competence and literacy is a need expressed by young people coming from small settlements, characterized by heterogeneous ethno-religious character and low social status, and will allow them: - To develop critical thinking skills in both the virtual and real world;- Identify false news, propaganda and disinformation, that often form tensions and confrontation in societies as well as anti-European rhetoric, especially in the Eastern Partnership countries and the Western Balkans region; - To express positions on important topics, thus acting as active citizens; - Be active participants, not just consumers of the digital and information media environment; - Make effective use of online content for professional and educational purposes; - To avoid falling into the NEET category and the spiral of social exclusion. Among the additional reasons underlying the will of young people to realize the planned activities is the fact that almost all jobs recently require a certain level of digital competences, as well as participation in public life does, i.e. the participation in this exchange, in the way it has been designed, increases their chances for public and professional realization.
