Objectives

According to the National Survey on the Prevalence of Diabetes, prediabetes, overweight, obesity, dyslipidemia, hyperuricemia and chronic kidney disease (PREDATORR), there are around 520,000 cases of diabetes in Bulgaria in 2017, while 168,200 cases of diabetes in Spain which implements a prevailing national plan for diabetes. Romania is among the countries with the highest prevalence of diabetes in Europe (11.6%) head the list being Turkey (14.85%). Across the Europe Region (EUR) 56 million people have diabetes – a prevalence of 8.5%. In the next two decades is expected to increase by more than 20%. Is essential to prevent type 2 diabetes in early life, when eating and physical activity habits are formed and when the long-term regulation of energy balance may be programmed, there is a critical window for intervention to mitigate the risk of obesity and type 2 diabetes later in life. This is why all the 4 partners from this exchange have decided to work together for a solution, in the direction that also governments from European countries slowly make, taking measures of prevention diabetes through education. We have designed a holistic non-formal education plan including informing young people (at the age when eating habits are still possible to change and fix ), developing practical skills for physical activities and diet and also the right attitude towards the risk/causes/effects of diabetes assuming responsibilities for our own body/mind health. The planned program of the project aims to : 1. Increase the level of knowledge about what is diabetes (causes, types, prevention) for 40 (32 youth+8 leaders) young people during 9 days in Plovdiv, Bulgaria through interactive presentations and accelerated learning methods. 2. Develop physical activity and diet habits for 40 young people during 9 days of exchange through outdoor self-confident, communication with others and creativity strategy outdoor games ; 3. Improve competences about nutrition labeling as consumers and buyers of food in daily life for 40 young people for 9 days by using practice in supermarkets. 4. Enhance intercultural dialogue and inclusion for 40 young people during 9 days through cultural events, mixed team work, sharing diversity and practice solution-centered attitude; 5. Raise the level of information on reducing consumption of unhealthy food, increasing physical activity and consumption of healthy foods for 400 citizens in PLOVDIV during the “Stop Diabetes Campaign“ . 6. To Promote and raise awareness about the "European Capital of Culture" and Plovdiv, as such for 2019 by taking part in 2 different events organized by Municipality of Plovdiv and "Plovdiv 2019" foundation. The project’s objectives respond and contribute to the Erasmus+ program’s aims as the Mobility of learners and staff as we provide for our 40 young participants&leaders in the project a learning experience opportunity in another country regarding healthy habits for preventing diabetes.
