Objectives

The objectives of the project were met since a team of our staff carefully designed and implemented the working programmes and the learning agreements in cooperation with our partner organization. This was successfully achieved by having in mind the individual needs and goals that were set for each activity. Instructors benefited through this experience by dealing with diverse learners and by being exposed to new teaching methods and tools at the hosting school environment. Students had the opportunity to learn about foreign cultures and new languages. They gained self-confidence and awareness and developed their communication and problem-solving skills. In addition, the participating students met professionals of their field, learned how to approach and cooperate with people from other cultures as well as improved their professional and personal skills and techniques. Those who worked in several companies, achieved an excellent performance in order to enter the current labor market. The objectives of the project were successfully met. Students adopted new methods and techniques in their field of studies. Students in hospitality management adopted new practices in food and beverage service as well as in culinary arts. They were excited to present to other students the dishes and drinks that they learnt in Portugal. Furthermore, the fine arts students learnt Manueline art, tiles and fado that are unique expressions and genuine symbols of the Portuguese.

Background

Our school aim is to establish a solid cooperation with European Vocational organizations. Based on our development plan we are looking forward to gain such nodal properties, capabilities and skills needed in society of 21st century, to improve in matters concerning students communication skills in other languages, working with others in foreign countries which will help them live and work independently, develop their personality, self-esteem, competence and skills. Furthermore, this program helps both teachers and students to be acclimated with labor European data and prepared to use EQF (European Qualification Framework) and CYQF (Cyprus Qualification Framework) since our accession in Europe requires changing of our school analytical programs based on these data. Find new collaboration tools between teachers and students but at the same time new teaching methods in order to approach students and create a better learning environment. Last but follows important is finding ways for extra funding which is always a challenge. The students of the catering department during their second year in school, must undergo practical training in hotel and catering establishments for 20 weeks, a pre-requisite for obtaining their school certificate. The same applies for the students of the electrical engineering and art and design, they have to undergo practical training of 180 hours. Finally the students of baking and pastry have to undergo practical training of 6 weeks in bakeries or confectioneries in order to obtain their certificate. All teaching and administration staff have work experience within the field and work closely with the required industry. The administration of our school, having in mind the need for further personal and professional development of the educators, staff and students of the school, decided to take advantage of the benefits that Erasmus+ Program offers.
