The year 2007 has changed the world. More than 50% of the world’s population became urban. People have made a huge leap in the urbanization but also an immense degradation in natural habitat over many years. It is much harder to realize a negative impact on the environment when comfortable and quick lives don’t let us stop and think about our collective actions which may cause the danger for our planet. Scientists and ecologists struggle to make the population aware of hazardous climate change and pollution. Politicians in many countries have taken action to decrease waste, improve recycling methods and support the environment but it is important to note that general population needs to start acting too. Big urban areas have tremendous impact on the natural environment. Due to global warming and plastic overuse problems, nowadays, it is important for people to live more sustainably. It is natural that people tend to choose the easiest way to survive in daily living in order to save their own energy. Some people order a coffee to take away in a paper cup with a plastic lid instead of taking their own cup from home which they will have to wash afterwards. They throw waste into one container because segregation takes time and space. They buy needed products in colorful plastic bottles such as cosmetics and chemicals because it is easier to buy it rather than produce it, moreover chemical consortia tell them that only those products will solve their cleaning/beauty problems. It is just easier to go shopping to the mall where they can buy both groceries and any clothes they need at the moment, no matter the price. Those actions taken by millions of people at once produce tremendous amount of waste and horrendous risk for the planet. Living in a fast-paced society doesn't give an opportunity to think over how our daily life affects the Earth. Moreover, many young people live in big cities and don’t have an opportunity to meet the beautiful nature itself. We came up with the project in order to: stop the daily train of common thoughts; stop unawareness of the problem and stop destroying our planet. And stop fast-paced lives for a moment and think it all through. We want not only to teach young people about sustainable living but also to let them experience and appreciate the natural habitat. We do believe that the change in the world starts with one’s attitude and habits. And this change may become even bigger with a group of active young people because they are the future of our society. Thus, young people from 5 European countries (Cyprus, Italy, Poland, Romania and Spain) with both various and very similar environmental problems will gather for the youth exchange "EnvironMENTAL" to learn about above mentioned issues, experience closeness with nature, discuss existing problems and start solving them. The project will take place in Cyprus and will include two activities: -Advance Planning Visit for 5 national group leaders in order to adjust the project activities to selected participants’ needs and prepare the youth exchange at best (September 2019); -Youth Exchange for 25 participants in October 2019. EnvironMENTAL is a youth exchange that was planned in order to meet both the needs of young people missing a contact with nature and planet Earth’s need for reducing negative human impact on the environment. The project is to promote sustainable living, encourage to eco initiatives, increase awareness about human negative impact on natural habitat and develop problem solving skills related to environmental problems. We want to show our participants how to live in harmony with nature, be proud about it and take action. The aim of the project is to provide information about living more sustainably, give tools and skills that are needed in decreasing own negative impact on environment and developing positive attitude towards natural habitat and a will to live in a harmony with it. The three objectives chosen for the project are the following: 1. young people will expand young people’s knowledge about sustainable living (i.a. about low waste philosophy, ways of connecting with nature, natural cosmetics and environmental initiatives) 2. participants will learn how to live sustainably (i.e. producing their own cosmetics, upcycling of materials and practicing capacities connected to survival and hiking on trails) 3. youth will want to change their lifestyle to live more sustainably (i.e. they share their knowledge with the others, connect with the nature more often and want and encourage the others to change their own daily habits in order to minimise the human impact on planet Earth).
