Objectives

In the work plan for culture of the European Union, the following should be secured through the principle of intercultural dialogue: “establishing an infrastructure that enables migrants and refugees to participate in social and cultural life, express their concerns and enter into dialogue with those in power, while those in power are responsive enough to attend to these concerns” (European Union, 2017). However, data collected by Eurostat has concluded that four out of ten foreign citizens in EU Member States face a threat of living in poverty or being socially excluded (Eurostat, 2019). The inclusion of immigrants and refugees in society is a must for Member States. The future generation must grow up in a society that welcomes and incorporates them. Therefore, the educational sector requires a different approach in order for successful intercultural dialogue to be guaranteed. Thus, the proposed project strives to promote promotion and development of inclusive societies by increasing the quantity and quality of youth work done with multicultural groups by youth workers using Cultural Intelligence (CQ) as a ground stone for understanding, acceptance and continuous self-development. The actions initiated by the youth workers with developed CQ would ensure connections between various young groups of society, thus increasing integration and empowerment. The connections would account for an increased understanding and acceptance of differing world views and cultures which results in better social inclusion of migrants and refugees. This could result in a decline of societal conflicts and misunderstanding. The connections in long run could also mean a decrease of the extreme right and nationalism. The main objectives of “CQ is the new IQ” project are: - To introduce Cultural Intelligence concept to youth organisations and youth workers - To show how Cultural Intelligence can be used as a tool to foster acceptance of different cultures which would result to creation of inclusive societies - To equip youth workers, teachers, social workers etc. with the necessary skills-set to work with multicultural groups of young people as well as to prepare the young people to live/work in intercultural environment themselves - To improve youth workers coaching and workshop design skills for them to be able to transfer the knowledge to youth in better/attractive to youth way - To learn-by-doing during the Training Course creating 5 promotional videos for cultural awareness and acceptance involving local community members in Limassol, Cyprus - To disseminate the knowledge acting as multipliers and share the skills acquired during the Training Course by youth workers delivering cultural intelligence workshops for youth in their organisations during the Local Action Phase - To strengthen cooperation between partner organisations and to provide them with the context to develop new project ideas with the focus on CQ, intercultural awareness and inclusion among youth.
