Since the promotion of language learning is tightly connected to literature, our objectives of the project were to make it more efficient demonstrating to students the beauties of learning improvement and notable contributions to their discourse. Teachers wanted to teach students the effective analysis of issues so they could come up with solutions to curious literary cases. Also, organization skills were supposed to be developed by teachers thanks to cooperation with our partner schools and the participation itself in the project. Teachers were expected to learn how to support students so they would be able to express themselves clearly and prepare them for a helpful life skill - teamwork. Cooperation with our partner school and attending literary courses should have built the confidence to be at ease not only professionally but also socially because any uneasiness can disrupt the lesson irretrievably. The literary club should have increased awareness and helped to boost positive habits like reading and individual research. At the same time, students were supposed to discover the benefits of the literary club and motivate their schoolmates.
It was applied for the project because of a short program at our school, Gymnazium Jihlava, which did not provide teachers and learners with adequate tools to improve their reading and writing literacy. Students were exposed to a minimum amount of reading material, literature, or theatrical production in the English language acquisition. Also, the teaching staff experienced a severe lack of seminars, workshops, or after-school activities held for teachers to be equipped with strategies, teaching methods, teaching materials or tools to be implemented in their classrooms to develop both their own and their students´ literacy skills, improve comprehension, understand the range of text and its structure, utilize it as an excellent source of vocabulary, language structures, and grammar, expand the vocabulary repertoire, further their writing skills, familiarise themselves with the cultural and historical context of the explored countries, erase cross-cultural boundaries or biases through reading, heighten their imagination and last but not least, to strengthen the acquisition of competencies needed in the lifelong learning process. There was an urgent need to revive, maintain and boost interest in reading English literature.
