Objectives

As for the teachers´ mobility, during an internship in a horticultural company, we wanted them to improve their competences in the field they teach, to learn about different types of horticultural management, new or different work procedures, technologies and methods of work. All this, after returning, to transfer to the educational system of our organization, to share it with their colleagues and students and to incorporate some methods into the school educational programme. The stay in a foreign company was supposed to be a strong motivating element for teachers to make changes in some established stereotypes in their teaching and in the system of professional training, and thus help to make the currently not very popular horticultural programme in our school more attractive. We also aimed to pass on some of the new methods to our social partners, with whom the school cooperates and where our pupils provide vocational training. At the same time, they were supposed to improve their language skills in English and Spanish. Pupils participating in internships were expected to know the different procedures and methods of work used in foreign companies, to practice the theoretical knowledge gained during the study, they will have to communicate in a foreign language in their field, work in a team and take care of themselves in a foreign environment.

Background

Our project followed up on foreign internships of pupils and teachers carried out in previous years. The intention was to use the possibilities of the Erasmus + program to carry out internships in foreign companies and to increase the professional competences and language skills of pupils and teachers. This intention was based on the needs of the school and the long-term goals set out in the European School Development Plan. Among the most important needs were the transfer of new teaching and working methods to pupils, quality foreign language teaching and improved teaching methods towards practical skills.
