At the core of our project, there lies a fundamental and difficult question: What can be done to make men more involved in the topic of equal opportunities? Several studies at both national and European Commission level clearly indicate that men today are often excluded in this area. The data collected present that men are now more interested in gender issues and equal opportunities than before even though we are not able to observe it as such. But at the same time, they feel excluded from this issue and do not know how to get involved. The aim of the project is to prepare a methodology for coping with this social exclusion of men in the area of gender and equal opportunities and to find out how to improve the situation. In the project, we concentrate on the problems associated with violating the principals of gender equality, whether to the detriment of women or at the expense of men, because these lead to feelings of social exclusion. All three intellectual outputs of the project serve to improve social inclusion. This project deals with the inclusion of men in areas which lack their involvement and in areas where they feel excluded, or perhaps discriminated against, which is precisely the area of gender and equal opportunities. This area is now the focus of both women and men, and they seem to be concerned with these issues. The aim of the project is to establish that gender issues also apply to men and can also be beneficial to men. An important priority was the creation of teaching tools to support gender issues in adult education.
The inclusion of men into the gender agenda is an important issue of the 21st century. Gender topics stopped being an almost exclusively female issue. It is more and more common for men to play an important role in eliminating gender inequality. Increasing male identification with the gender equality agenda, increasing men's participation regarding the family and care, opens up a discussion on so-called male issues, especially paternity and male health. This means that the topic of men's involvement in gender is gradually getting to the general and political awareness. In 2019, we completed the Gender Education Advancing Competences in Context of Changing Europe project, which focused on the topic of gender and aimed to promote work transparency and gender mainstreaming in European society and subsequent applying within business area. Our project is very closely related to this project and builds on the issues. It is an extension of the ideas introduced in the previous project, as one of the needs highlighted by the finished project was the need for greater involvement of men in the issue of gender equality and equal opportunities. As part of the communication of the outputs of Gender Education Advancing Competences in Context of Changing Europe project, the issue of greater involvement of men was one of the frequently mentioned topics, let us say, the outputs were not accepted by men as definitely as they were by women. By discussing these facts among the members of our organization, we have identified the need for further work on this problem and for finding ways and tools to get men more involved. Within the section of HR specialists, managers and leading employees who make up the KPMS membership base, there was a clear requirement for procedures and instructions on how to involve men. Since many of our members are from multinational companies or are in daily contact with organizations from other countries, there was a clear objective stated which is a need for international comparison and exchange of experience. These were the motives that led us to the execution of this project. We were looking for foreign partners who have a similar experience and are focused on this topic in order to get inspired and learn from their experience.
