Internationalization, mobilization and the development of intercultural and language competencies on the part of students and teachers should be expanded. A culture of communication and openness towards foreign fellow citizens and the willingness to live and work abroad should be initiated in the further course of life.
The Vocational School Weilheim i. OB (BS WM) is a competence center for industrial and handicraft professions in the field of metalwork and construction, e.g. industrial mechanics, toolmakers, precision mechanic, metalworker, plant mechanic SHK, automotive mechatronics, agricultural and construction mechanic. In addition, apprenticeships are available for bricklayers, carpenters and joiners, as well as farmers, gardeners, landscapers, painters and varnishers. The BS WM has traditionally had students from rural regions. Already through past projects, the school was to be gradually internationalized. First projects to Sanok (Poland), Kavala (Greece) and Cartagena (Spain) were carried out in 2015. These found great interest in students and teachers. There were also visits by educational staff from foreign schools, such as a Finnish delegation in March 2020. In total, 56 students were able to gain experience abroad through this project. Pupil mobilities from foreign partner schools could also be carried out by BS WM as the host institution. In March 2020, 4 Finnish students were to complete an internship at our school center for a total of 3 weeks. Unfortunately, the stay had to be canceled after 1 week due to the Corona pandemic.
