Objectives

On the one hand, our aim was to enable individual mobilities for our students in order to develop and enhance their personal and vocational competences. Thanks to the mobilities one aim was to enhancane the chances on the labour market in Gelsenkirchen/the Ruhr area as well in the European labour market. The experience of previous mobility projects have demonstrated that some students wish to getting to know and to evaluate the work environment of their country of origin. On the other hand we wish to establish and strengthen the European idea in our school and support programmes and departments. Last but not least our position within the educational institutions shall be reinfoced.ny European projects such as the internship programme. Furthermore, we wish to stengthen the linugistic compentences (mainly English) of our participants - as mentioned before - our stundets have not have the opportunities to use it in their free-time.

Background

Our vocational college Berufskolleg Königstraße has been maintaining European internships for many years and is a certified Europaschule NRW since 2018. Gelsenkirchen ranks as the most economically underdeveloped town in Germany with a very high rate of unemployment in which many families do not have sufficient financial means to pay for internships abroad. The Erasmus+ funding closes this gap. Many students have a so-called migration background (this group is very diverse: amond these students ist the so-calles forth generation, new immigrants from middle and eastern Europe, students from war earas such as Sysria, Afghanistan and so on). At the same time, the share of anti-European parties increases each election in Gelsenkirchen. We are convinced that positive individual experiences do support cosmopolitan views of our students. Hence, our students will carry these positive experieces into their work, school and private environment.
