The project aimed to provide apprentices and young skilled workers from different crafts with additional language, technical and social skills through work experiences in a Norwegian, Italian, French, Dutch, British, Austrian or Portuguese company, with additional linguistic, technical, social and intercultural skills and competences. The apprentices and young skilled workers: 1. should be purposefully prepared and receive organisational support from the sending and receiving institution. 2. expand their competences and go into their professional and private future with a positive, European-oriented outlook 3. be open, tolerant and empathetic towards their fellow citizens with a migration background 4. pass on the "spirit of European mobility" to subsequent VET learners and young professionals and in their environment (friends, school, family, etc.) 5. spread information about the dual German vocational training system to Europe. With the staff projects such as job shadowing, participating companies should also sharpen and broaden their own view beyond the professional horizon. We wanted to dispel the prejudice that "mobilities = holiday trips" and the initial scepticism towards Erasmus+ projects.
The Chamber of Skilled Crafts Braunschweig-Lüneburg-Stade carries out such projects to help combat the shortage of skilled workers by giving its member companies the opportunity to offer apprentices or young skilled workers added value in the form of a work experience abroad with financial support through Erasmus+. In this way, the skilled crafts sector can show that experience abroad is not only possible during university studies, but also in the context of vocational training or afterwards. In this way, the companies have a unique selling point for their trainee marketing, and not only for the group of trainees with graduation from high school and thus access to university. Trainers' (staff is the definition of Erasmus+) job shadowing for training staff also gives company owners and training managers the opportunity to look beyond their own professional horizons. Overall, the Chamber of Skilled Crafts Braunschweig-Lüneburg-Stade would like to set an example for tolerance, intercultural understanding and inclusion with this Erasmus+ project (and in addition to its projects for people with a migration background), true to the motto "For us, it's not where you come from that counts, but where you want to go."
