Objectives

All project formats had the main goal in common of developing and strengthening the so-called key competences (intercultural, linguistic, social, personal competences). These competences, including independence/self-confidence, flexibility, personal responsibility, foreign language skills, professional competence, among others, lead to improved career opportunities at home and abroad. In addition, the mobilities should contribute to understanding the values of Europe and cultural diversity and increase access to these and identification with the European area. In view of demographic changes, intercultural competences are more important than ever. In the long term, the European idea and the idea of European solidarity should be sustainably strengthened and anchored in the lives of young people. Only if individuals truly identify with the EU can they actively participate in EU society and the EU labour market. With the help of the mobility activities, European career perspectives were shown and fears of thresholds were reduced.

Background

In view of globalisation, key competences as well as professional competences are indispensable in order to be and remain competitive on the European market. Young prospective employees in particular should strengthen competences at an early stage that enable them to live in a dynamic society and a constantly demanding labour market. The project "European Internship for VET Students" offered a learning framework in the form of mobility abroad for vocational school students in the dual and full-school sector, in which foundations could be laid for successful navigation in European society by strengthening awareness of European values and an appreciation of cultural diversity. In particular, we wanted to meet the needs of those students who have not yet had the opportunity of mobility abroad through their vocational school or training company, in order to enable low-threshold access to the experience and competence strengthening targeted in the project.
