Objectives

The project further develops the internationalization of the socio-pedagogical training courses at the Institute for Social Professions in Stuttgart: After successful projects in the last two years, the occupational schools for social pedagogy in Rottweil and Stuttgart are again offering an internship abroad for trainees and teaching staff. The training at the technical schools for social pedagogy in Baden-Württemberg (Germany) qualifies future educators for professional education, upbringing and care of children and young people in extracurricular facilities: in crèches, in kindergartens and in after-school care (after-school care). Educators take care of care, education and upbringing tasks in cooperation with the families. Different cultures are a matter of course for children and families today, due to the mobility of people in the EU and to migration and flight worldwide. Music plays an important role as an anchor and crystallization point for culture and cultural diversity. In the day-care centers for children, musical support is integrated into everyday life and is not isolated training. Today, first language acquisition in the family is often supplemented by second language acquisition in the day-care center and is much more successful through musical interactions.

Background

The practice of intercultural music education pursues goals and intentions on a factual, a music-practical, a reflective and a competence-oriented level. The theory of intercultural music education questions the relevant terms and meanings associated with these goals. The project enables future educators in their second year of training to try out musical education concepts in a bilingual or multilingual day care center for children in other European countries. In doing so, their intercultural skills will be expanded. Pupils explore how musical skills influence language acquisition and awareness of cultural diversity in institutional and family settings, and they also improve their foreign language skills. Permanent teachers support the students in theory and practice, expand their intercultural skills and their expertise in the field of musical education in the context of cultural diversity and thus contribute to the intra-European exchange of knowledge and to the transnational discussion about the promotion of musical skills.
