The participants complete their initial vocational training in full-time school or in dual training. They are between 20 and 51 years old and work in occupational fields in which international experience is often already a prerequisite for employment, such as in commercial professions or in the service sector (hotel and catering). In addition, there are more and more applications from craft and social (education and health) as well as creative professions (IT and media design). The aim was to enable them to develop intercultural competence through job-related stays abroad, understood as the ability to act and communicate efficiently and in a goal-oriented manner in a foreign cultural environment. In addition, the project offered the opportunity to promote job-related foreign language skills. Long-term internships (ErasmusPro) were aimed not only at trainees in dual or full-time school-based training programmes who have to complete longer compulsory internships, but also at graduates who could not be taken on as employees after their final exams. The international work experience should increase their chances of being placed in a job.
The "EVST-Mobility" project aimed to enable trainees with less favourable conditions in particular to participate in job-related stays abroad in other European countries in order to improve their chances of placement on the German and European labour markets. The starting point was the realisation that there are widespread reservations about leaving their traditional living environment, especially among young people in rural regions, and that additional support is needed to promote the participation of this target group in transnational mobility projects. This is particularly true for young people from disadvantaged social backgrounds and young people with a migration background, who often have little experience abroad.
