Our educational work engaged two groups. i) individuals and organisations already responding to climate change. ii) awareness raising and adult education aimed at a wider public. We reviewed our educational work and analysed the needs of our staff and the networks we engage. We examined both the opportunities and the needs of learners. We then set ourselves three strategic goals for the project. PRO-ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION: To upskill our trainers with knowledge and skills to dynamize and increase the impact of their education for pro-environmental action. INTERSECTIONAL APPROACHES: To upskill our trainers with knowledge and skills to offer education and training that incorporates an understanding of the intersection of climate change and social justice issues. PSYCHOSOCIAL RESILIENCE: To upskill our trainers with knowledge and skills that increase the psychosocial resilience of citizens' initiatives responding to climate change and social injustice. These were broken down into sets of specific learning needs which were woven into our European Development plan > ecopsychology > nature connection education > cognitive framing > anti oppression inclusion and equity > trauma and burnout prevention
Climate and resource challenges require drastic action. At the same time, efforts to address climate change cannot be separated out from issues such as social inclusion and cohesion. Adult education has a key role to play at the intersection of these challenges. The educational work of Klima*Kollektiv sits at this juncture. We saw a growing link between educational, economic, social and political exclusion of people. Our work is focused on strengthening active citizenship and community led projects to tackle these issues. We seek to build public awareness and equip citizens to take initiative. We see a direct relationship between nurturing entrepreneurial capacity, and promoting equity, social cohesion and active citizenship. We saw the positive impact of education work fostering active citizenship. As the urgency to find solutions to climate change, growing social tensions, and economic inequalities pressed more intensely upon us, we felt a strong call to step up our work, increase its quality, and extend its reach. We applied for this project to increase the quality, impact and reach of our educational work, so as to promote widespread responses to climate change and social injustice.
