The use of foreign languages in professional communication situations and the development of an intercultural understanding of culturally influenced working methods are of particular concern to both teachers and students. This takes place in the form of stays abroad in the context of company internships and job shadowing. The mobilities in vocational education lead to an increased intercultural understanding for a common Europe among instructors and trainees. The experience abroad promotes their self-confidence and enables them to open their eyes for professional perspectives abroad. Another holistic project goal is to ensure that the European idea is also lived out in the classroom. This is reflected in the European curriculum of the courses as well as in the subject IBM (international professional mobility). In addition, we pursue the guiding goal of the district government of Cologne to realize 10% of the mobilities in vocational education.
As a European School, it is a special concern of the school community to promote the view of the European working world for our students as well as for the staff with the mobility projects of ERASMUS+. The Goldenberg Europakolleg (GEK) is located in an important economic center of the Cologne area. The cooperation with large, internationally operating companies (agricultural machinery, chemical industry, metal industry) requires a preparation of the students as well as the educational staff for the growing demands of a European labor market. As a European school, we attach great importance to this preparation.
