We see diversity as an opportunity and it is important to us that every member of the school community is supported. The project should be an important contribution to further develop this support and to be able to take a closer look at our marginalized groups. To this end, we wanted to learn from other teachers in other European countries, to get to know new methods for the sustainable promotion of linguistic competence, especially of learners with a refugee/migration background, to inform ourselves about mentoring, which is often practiced abroad, in order to focus on dealing with difficult learners or students with learning difficulties, to further develop our own teacher personality in the area of soft skills and stress resistance, but also not to lose sight of the question of how high-performing learners can be meaningfully integrated in the classroom without losing motivation. In addition to these primary goals, it was also a matter of expanding the foreign language competence of our colleagues, advancing our internationalization strategy, increasing the number of teachers to be sent, exchanging ideas on an international level, and establishing contact with potential cooperation partners.
With 2,500 students from 80 nations, ASBK has a heterogeneous, international student body. Accordingly, inclusion, interculturality and language support are firmly anchored in the school program. Of course, teachers and students can also expand these competencies in everyday school life, especially when it comes to such a "colorful" school as ours. Nevertheless, Erasmus+ offers opportunities for intercultural learning and the expansion of vocational and foreign language skills in a different, much more authentic quality, which is why the projects abroad are an indispensable part of our concept. Since 2008 we have been conducting teacher trainings in other European countries, and since 2015 and 2018, respectively, we have been regularly organizing job-related stays abroad for our learners. The need to exchange on an international level about current educational topics such as diversity of the student body, inclusion or the like in further training, to learn about (management) strategies, but also teaching methods, has remained at all levels from career starters to experienced teachers, department heads to school management and should be realized through the project.
