Objectives

Certainly, basic digital requirements at our school were given, but the potential should be used in a better way, students and teachers should gain more competence in dealing with digital media in a health-promoting learning environment. Therefore, we want to learn from European success stories. Our school has been a European school since August 1st, 2018 and has been working on many projects with European partner schools for years. There have already been numerous innovations that have successfully enriched our school life. We hoped to receive numerous innovative impulses through the exchange with European colleagues in the areas of digitisation and health promotion, which we still need to improve a lot, and to be able to integrate them into our lessons. A major problem is the malnutrition of numerous children in all grades. We wanted to be successful in this area and provide suitable offers. In the area of digitisation, we expected some further development through observations and getting to know new approaches and methods for using digital media in the various areas of education.

Background

The guiding principles of the school program of the Westercelle secondary school include the topics of "digitization" and "health promotion", they are an essential part of school life. A media education concept is implemented in the school program, but we asked ourselves what a contemporary digital teaching and learning setting would look like and how digital structures and tools could enrich work in heterogeneous learning settings. The students should be supported in finding individual and self-determined learning paths in order to be prepared for the future. For us teachers, this meant that we wanted to continue our education at the partner schools in order to prepare our students to be able to react to technical challenges. The focus on health development is another pillar of our school program. During the long breaks, kiosks are sold and food is offered by the student company, whose selection was not yet as healthy and sustainable as desired. In 2016/17, the "Healthy Living Learning" working group was founded, which deals with improvements in the working environment and initiates regular innovation and reflection surveys on the subject of health.
