Objectives

The teachers' willingness to participate in in-service training courses was great. Especially for language teaching, we considered innovative approaches necessary to be successful in a world where a high level of language is demanded. In a time of increasing globalisation of economic, social and political processes, the English language as a linguafranca is of ever growing importance. The concrete goals of this project were the linguistic training of teachers to qualify them for the use of English in selected subject areas. The introduction of CLIL didactics was also at the centre of attention. Furthermore, we planned job shadowing to exchange experiences with our partner schools, since the cooperation between the English department and the science and social science subjects has been practised successfully here for years. We also wanted to develop sustainable cooperation in the use of digital media to do justice to globalisation and internationalisation.

Background

The internationalisation of private and professional relationships requires comprehensive communication skills combined with intercultural competence. Our school considers it significant to prepare students for their future professional careers in an international environment. For this purpose, the following developments in the school have been reconsidered and re-planned. 1. development and modernisation of teaching and learning methods; 2. internationalisation of pedagogical work in and outside the classroom; 3. use of the English language in specialised teaching. The school programme was updated and new development paths were pointed out. Particular priority was given to the use of new teaching methods, for example, group and partner work in connection with the use of new media in addition to frontal teaching. The project lessons and the compulsory elective lessons at the secondary level are increasingly oriented towards cooperation with other regional and European educational partners.
