Our goal was to further strengthen our European school profile and to promote the exchange and cooperation between the colleagues of the regular classes and the SESB branches, as well as our European partners. In addition, there was the desire to promote the professionalization of our teaching staff and use Erasmus + to advance school development projects through diverse perspectives and newly acquired competencies of the participants, as well as to get to know successful European school concepts. In order to make this sustainable, we aimed at incorporating mobilities in several areas and represented by participants from different subject areas with the following focal points: 1. Building key competencies to better deal with heterogeneity 2. Professionalization of teaching activities 3. Promotion of digital and media competence 4. European networking and strengthening of the European (SESB) school profile
The European idea is a central element in our school profile and guides our everyday teaching and learning. As a school with a special branch (German-Italian State European School Berlin), we wanted to make use of the potential of a diverse student body, but also address the problems that arise in intercultural interaction. The need arose for concrete action strategies to address an increasingly heterogeneous student body and growing class sizes in Berlin. We successfully implemented an ERASMUS+ project (KA1) already in 2018. We wanted to build on this and enable more teachers to further their education on a European level. The positive feedback from the school community expressed a strong wish for further networking and professionalization, especially in the digital field. During the pandemic, this need for both methodological and technology-based professional development of teachers has increased rapidly. Finally, the deepening and expansion of our European network were overarching and long-term goals of our institution.
