Objectives

The objectives associated with this project were, on the one hand, the personal strengthening of the participants and, on the other hand, the impulse for the design of an overall health-promoting workplace school. The project broadened the perspective of a parallel project in Key Action 2 on student health promotion. This was intended to firmly establish health promotion as a topic in the Don Bosco School.

Background

The trigger for this project was a survey of the staff by the employer state of North Rhine-Westphalia regarding the psychosocial burden on teachers. The results of the survey have made it clear what personal challenges the profession of special education teacher is associated with. The study carried out under the name COPSOQ impressively showed that various causes of special stress experiences can be identified here. Problems lie in the lack of differentiation between work and leisure (work-privacy-conflict), in personal borderline experiences with challenging behavior of students and lack of techniques for relaxation and health-promoting behavior.
