Objectives

On the one hand the school wanted to focus its efforts on putting into practice its recently developed new media concept, which goes along with the progressive equipment of the school with modern media. On the other hand, the school wanted to systematize and enlarge its range of cultural activities and planned to apply to become a "Kulturschule" within the model project "Kulturschule 2020 Baden-Württemberg". By pursuing these aims the school wanted and wants to implement and foster suitable measures in the fields "New technology" and "Culture" in order to comply with its students' individual needs and interests, thereby promoting diversity. As a consequence, students are expected to feel individually appreciated and consequently perform better at school and teachers are expected to apply innovative teaching methods taking into account the heterogeneity of their students. Furthermore, the project being carried out at an European level is meant to enhance international exchange and to motivate teachers to manage their professional life in the long run. As for the school, it is expected to be a seen as a future-oriented institution paying attention to its students' individual needs and interests and adhering to European standards.

Background

In view of the growing diversity of the students at Otto-Hahn Gymnasium Ostfildern, which reflects the demographic changes in Germany and the region in the recent past, the school has identified the management of diversity as one of its major fields of school development. With this project the school aims at offering its staff a specific and in-depth training in this field, focussing on the aspects of "New technologies" and "Culture", which are currently relevant development fields at our school. With these two areas of development it complies with guidelines of the new curriculum of Baden-Württemberg. The European perspective is expected to significantly enrich the project.
