Objectives

The development of (foreign) language competence should support: Teachers in language teaching as such and also in the bilingual branch at the vocational grammar school, as well as 'normal' teaching of students with a mother tongue other than German, all participants in the context of cross-border projects (working language often English), all participants during visits of teachers and school classes from abroad (teachers and students are distributed among all classes and take part in lessons), all participants during visits of delegations from abroad (just now 3 headmasters from Hungary visited us to learn about the implementation of the Dual System), all those involved in other activities, e.g. the HLA hosted students and teachers from abroad in teh course of the Summer School of the European University in Flensburg (working language English), all those involved in school activities in the context of looking after pupils with a mother tongue other than German. The development of digital competence serves to make lessons more appropriate for the target group and to encourage staff to make more intensive use of the excellent equipment of the HLA, as well as to organise distance lessons, if necessary.

Background

The implementation of structured further education for colleagues has a long tradition at the HLA and is part of our profile. Guiding principle 4 of our school programme states that As a European school, we seek and cultivate cooperation with our school's national and international partners by... ... conducting joint projects, student and teacher exchanges and mutual visits are promoted and publicised. ... making it possible for our pupils and teachers to take part in work placements and further training at home and abroad. ... strengthening the interest in external contacts among our teaching staff'. Reasons for developing language competence in the teaching staff include: The HLA is consistently involved in cross-border projects and regularly receives visitors from abroad or colleagues visit schools abroad. The number of pupils who were not born in Germany (of approx. 2000 pupils, almost 25% come from 48 other nations) is constantly increasing. So language skills are vital for participation and integration in various contexts of internationalisation at HLA. The modern equipment of the HLA (digital devices for all colleagues as well as interactive boards in all classrooms) offer the best conditions for digitalised teaching.
