The vocational college Speyer strives to constantly improve the quality of teaching. It is therefore an ongoing process to maintain and constantly develop the level of skills to be taught in the classroom through various further training offers. Our goal is to acquire or improve the following skills in the field of digitization: - the digital competence of colleagues and students - routine in dealing with media among colleagues and students - react better to the heterogeneity of the students with the help of the media - master the challenges of modern and increasingly digitized society in a better manner - prepare the students for the requirements of media-oriented jobs - initiate intercultural projects and cooperation in the digital field - promote the language skills of colleagues
The "Digital School - Seeing Change as an Opportunity" project was designed to strengthen the digital competence of the staff and, as a result, the student body, and to sharpen a European school profile at the BBS Speyer. Many colleagues completed their specialist training many years ago and although the further training offers are regularly used, there is a need to actively increase the high quality of the teaching and to expand it to the digital area. The colleagues wanted: - Get to know various motivating methods in the field of digital competence and use them in the classroom in a student-oriented and goal-oriented manner - To be able to better prepare students for the challenges of the international job market - To make lessons contemporary and varied through the use of media projects - To improve the media competence and routine in dealing with digital media of the students. The aim of the BBS Speyer is varied, interesting and contemporary teaching that is based on the current life situation of the students and the target countries. The acquired digital competence should be passed on to other teachers and students. Another central concern is the motivation of the students, which is to be achieved through everyday and action-oriented projects. Digital and varied lessons should enable the students to develop their skills in different areas of life and work. There is an urgent need to update our knowledge in the digital didactic and methodological area, to align it with European standards and to exchange this knowledge. We would like to use the various further training courses in other European countries to exchange ideas with colleagues from other EU countries and to initiate international projects, for example via eTwinning. This should help to motivate students to learn a foreign language, to increase the international and digital competence of the learners. By participating in structured training courses, the staff at our school was given the opportunity for professional development in order to work through the challenges we see. Participants formed a competence team and, as multipliers, passed on their learning experiences to all of us. Improved digital competence should also promote the targeted handling of heterogeneity in different classes. With the help of the latest technology, the colleagues can do justice to different performance levels and make the lessons more differentiated. This would reduce the overload of a teacher. The new media offer our colleagues plenty of opportunities to convey the subject matter in an even more varied way. The prerequisite for this: The teachers at our school must also be able to handle the technology and know the possible uses. The right training courses ensure that we expand our own knowledge and skills, take away the fear of using new media from our colleagues and show them their advantages.
