Objectives

The needs described above resulted in the following objectives for our school: 1. learning from European partners in the field of digitally supported teaching methodology, school organisation and school equipment. 2. to develop the methodological competence of colleagues and to improve the quality of teaching in general 3. to deal with different concepts of pupil-oriented digitally-supported teaching 4. adapting concepts for the technical equipment of classrooms 5. further development of a corresponding media curriculum for the individual grades. These goals formed the basis for the selection of the mobilities and were the guidelines for the implementation of the whole project. Tailored to the two selected mobilities in Estonia and Finland, this was specified as follows: In one training course, the focus was on getting to know different possibilities of using digital media in science teaching and to be able to experience and subsequently evaluate their practical application by observing science lessons. In the other training course, the focus was on reflecting on one's own school system using best-practice examples from Finland and Estonia, combined with reflections on how proven models from both countries can be implemented in one's own teaching practice. Furthermore, both mobilities should generally enable a broadening of horizons in many areas of teaching development.

Background

The digital transformation is changing learning in schools. For current and especially for future generations of pupils, competences that enable a confident use of digital tools and media are becoming increasingly important. At the time of the application, not enough importance was attached to the acquisition of these competences at our grammar school, which resulted in the impetus for a school development process to compensate for this deficiency. The Erasmus+ project described here, "Moving into the Future II - Digitisation as an Extension of a Modern Teaching Methodology", is part of this development process. The main motive of this project was the desire to further train the teachers of our school in digital teaching methodology and the necessary framework conditions for this, in order to create the conditions for the acquisition of digital competences in daily teaching. A look at our European neighbours shows that the Baltic and Scandinavian countries are clearly ahead in the area of digital education in schools. We took this as mission to learn from these countries. Restrictions due to the COVID 19 pandemic led to a focus on two areas: Firstly, the mobilities were intended to provide new insights and in-depth knowledge on the use of digital media in science teaching. Secondly, the aim was to learn more about the education systems of countries that regularly achieve top positions in international comparative tests in Europe. Other considerations included the further development of all-day schools, the improvement of teaching methods, and the strengthening of European civic competence.
