The Holderberg School had and has the need to open up the school to Europe with the help of teachers and students. Previous European contacts were not constant and the project was intended to find constant partners in order to strengthen our European identity. The further development of our opening towards Europe was to be achieved through training in project management, learning about best practice examples through job shadowing and also language courses. Through the project, a broad activation of teachers in European projects should take place. Learners, guided by teachers, should acquire key competences necessary to gain lifelong European personal and professional experiences. Through the project, the school should move towards internationalisation, but also improve the quality of teaching. Through the acquired knowledge, teachers should be enabled to further develop the school through European projects, but also to integrate new methods and ideas into everyday teaching.
The present project was carried out to promote intercultural competence, also with regard to new teaching methods, and to build competence in the field of project management. The project should serve as a strategic tool for further development in terms of project management and for the internationalisation of the Holderberg School. By participating in the project, teachers should learn new teaching methods by observing other schools in order to improve the quality of teaching and also to educate their learners to become European citizens. Furthermore, the project should establish contacts with European schools that will support our goal of internationalisation in the future. With the help of the project activities, European cooperation should be anchored in the school programme. Some teachers lack the willingness to develop intercultural competence, which is, however, indispensable in a common Europe. Therefore, job shadowing, language courses and further training should help to motivate teachers for European work, to make them competent for the implementation of European projects, but also to improve the quality of teaching through new impulses of best practice examples and thus to enrich the school.
